DOE-FERC Grid Coordination Effort 'Positive,' States Say

WASHINGTON—The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners issued the following after the Department of Energy and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a joint statement on federal transmission siting:

“Today’s joint statement from the Department of Energy and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is a positive development. While we still need to see the details of this proposal, it is clear that Energy Secretary Steven Chu gave strong weight to the concerns raised by us and numerous other parties. State public service commissioners understand as much if not more than anyone else about the importance of modernizing our nation’s electrical system. We are working across State boundaries and ensuring that needed transmission is built in a timely fashion giving all parties, from consumers to landowners, a voice. This decision is a welcomed development and we look forward to working with the Energy Department and our colleagues at FERC as they move forward.”
--NARUC Executive Director Charles Gray
