National Telephone Discount Lifeline Awareness Week
September 13-19, 2010

NARUC, the Federal Communications Commission, and the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates are designating September 13-19 - the first week after Labor Day - as "National Telephone Discount Lifeline Awareness Week."

Based on a resolution the NARUC Board of Directors passed at the 2009 Summer Committee Meetings, the Week is designed to both raise awareness of and participation in Lifeline and Link-Up, two federal/State programs that help make telephone service more affordable for qualified customers.

This page contains important information about both programs, the Week itself, and what your Commission can do to get involved. The NARUC Staff Subcommittee on Consumer Affairs developed an Outreach Toolkit that can guide your efforts.

In today’s increasingly interconnected world, telecommunications services provide a vital lifeline to emergency services, friends, and family. No American should be offline simply because they cannot afford such services. Lifeline and Link-Up provide crucial financial assistance for qualified consumers so no one gets left out.

So help us spread the word!
