The NARUC-NASEO Distributed Energy Resources Integration and Compensation Initiative (DER I&C Initiative) is designed to support state decision makers in addressing policy and regulatory challenges related to the integration, operation, and compensation of distributed energy resources (DERs) within the distribution grid, bulk power system, and wholesale energy markets.
In the next phase of activities, NARUC, NASEO, and NASUCA state and territory members can join a cohort that builds state decision maker capacity to effectively plan for and navigate changes across the distribution system. With support from DOE and other experts, the cohort will co-create strategies to leverage distribution planning to help achieve community and state goals and priorities, including reliability, resilience, DER utilization, and grid modernization. Cohort participants are expected to participate throughout the series’ activities to create a cohesive learning group atmosphere and make progress together.
The Planning for a Modern Distribution System Cohort will participate in four online interactive workshops that focus on how to increase visibility into, plan for, and leverage the distribution grid to advance forward-looking grid technology investment strategies. Each workshop will focus on a different aspect of the distribution planning process and will encourage shared learning and group problem solving.
Registration for the cohort is now closed. If you would still like to participate, please reach out to Jeff Loiter at jloiter@naruc.org (NARUC and NASUCA members) or Kirsten Verclas at kverclas@naseo.org (NASEO members). You can also read more about the workshop series and the DER I&C.
The cohort and its activities are open to commissioners and staff of all public utility commissions, the directors and staff of State Energy Offices, and state consumer advocates.
