Part 1 will explore Changing Approaches and Uncertainties with an emphasis on how planning practices, including integrated resource planning (IRP) processes have been modified to align with evolving risks on the supply and demand sides of the electric system. Commissioners and staff are invited to share their experiences and hear from colleagues across the country. A representative from each state will share a 3-4 minute responses to the following questions: 1.) How have the resource planning (including resource adequacy) approaches at your commission changed during the past 1-5 years, and what were the primary drivers for those changes? 2.) Have commission planning processes been adjusted to account for uncertainties related to distributed energy resources (DERs), localized load growth, impacts from EV charging stations, or other demand-side issues? 3.) Are there any concerns about having enough resources to serve future load? 4.) To what extent do you provide guidance to regulated utilities on scenarios, sensitivities, and assumptions to address uncertainties within their IRP process or other planning practices? Additional guidance and information will be provided to all registrants in advance of the event.
