Due to the current war in Ukraine and the subsequent accelerated progress of the country’s European Union (EU) candidacy and electricity market integration, the primary objectives of this technical assistance are to strengthen the regulator’s role in overseeing the energy sector, promote competitiveness and transparency, and to bring Ukraine one step closer to alignment with EU energy requirements. NEURC is committed to reinforcing its independence and developing its capacity to manage the current crisis while also planning for the rebuilding and restructuring of Ukraine’s energy sector, which will take place in the coming years. The challenges Ukraine faces due to the Russian invasion have also created an opportunity for its energy sector to make substantive progress in energy sector reforms. |
